Keep up to date on what's happening in the European Commission, Council and Parliament with the weekly Oireachtas Digest on Europe.

On 17 December European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will award the 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia. MEPs are also due to assess the latest developments in Syria this week, along with the geopolitical implications and the humanitarian position in the region.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in the European Parliament plenary debate in preparation for the European Council meeting of 19 December. The calendar of European Commission meetings includes a trip by the Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Communications, Eamon Ryan, to meet Commissioner Teresa Ribera.
